WINTER TIME AT TRANQUIL HILLS
Rain glorious rain has fallen in abundance and the orchard is green and lush. The pigs have got lots of mud to play in and they snuggle into their straw together at night with only their ears and noses out in the cold.
A group of birdwatchers joined us recently to study the habits of the Flame Robin. The group have been visiting Cobram for 35 years. The Flame Robins are similar to Robin Red Breasts but they are a different branch of the family.
They are believed to migrate from Tasmania to the Victorian High Country where they breed and then to the Riverland during the winter and then back to Tasmania. The tiny birds have been seen landing on Oil Rigs in the Bass Straight for a rest during their journey but with all the study done over the years they are yet to find a banded bird that proves the story.
We also participated in Farm Day this year and had two delightful families join us for the day. They enjoyed walking around the orchard and watching Kangaroos. The kids played under the sprinklers and everyone helped to pick the last of the quince crop. Bev gave them her famous scone recipe and let them watch her cook them and later she cooked damper on the campfire and Noel made Billy Tea with the traditional swinging of the billy to settle the tea leaves. A good day was had by all.
